Monolake is an open project dedicated to computer generated music, founded in 1995 by Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles.
Impressed and influenced by minimal techno and drum & bass the duo discovered the sonic richness and sophistication of academic computer music. These poles became the source and inspiration for their own creations. In 1999 Gerhard changed direction and Monolake became more or less Robert Henke alone.
Significant releases include the debut album Hongkong, the ambient epos Gobi, the dark and driving album Gravity and the most recent vinyl releases, showing a development into more and more reduced and rhythmical structures while still keeping the complexity and deepness of the earlier works. Robert also releases drone/ambient works under his real name and is massively involved in the creation of the music software Ableton Live.
Monolake are hailed as a pioneers of their genre, a sound that can only be done justice outdoors on a cracking system.
