Blake Baxter

Type DJ
Main Genre:
Location: Unknown
From the shrine of house, Chi town's fame label (DJ International), to his hometown, the techno Mecca, Blake has produced tunes for Detroit classic techno labels like (KMS) (Incognito) and (UR) in Europe. As DJ, Blake toured with the likes of Underground Resistance, Tresor tours, Joey Beltram, Tyree Cooper, Dynamix DJ tours and the list goes on and on...

In 1991, at the end of an UR tour in Germany, Blake took time out to produce what will be the first of three album projects titled "Dream Sequence one thru three" on Tresor, a Berlin based record label and club. During that time Blake produced underground classics like "One More Time" and "Brothers Gonna Work it Out." Also in Germany, Blake produced two albums for Disko B, a Munich based label. Both albums were house fused with deep bass and techno elements. The "H factor" album produced an underground cult classic "Our Luv," a disco acid combo with a deep dark tech feel.

While touring in Holland, Blake teamed up with Amsterdam mix master bad boy Orlando Voorn to form a production group called the "Ghetto Brothers," producing underground tracks like "From the Ghetto," "Beyond the Clouds" and "Here We Are," working with Holland's classic techno labels. Like "ESP/Go Bang" and "Spiritual," together they produced a mixture of up tempo house with techno-driven elements. The concept was to form a bridge between house and techno via a tempo and a production style. This innovation is a defining form of what is called today's house tech.

In the UK, you can hear Blake's vocals being sampled from the Chemical Brothers "Brothers Gonna Work it Out" to Trevor Rockclif's "Visions of You" and Ben Sims "Sexuality" remix

Blake has produced more than a decade of underground electronic dance classics and still remains as popular and active as ever still thinking creatively, alternatively and futuristically. Blake remains one of Detroit's hot list DJs, artist and producers to date.

In 2004, Blake hooked up with Abe Duque on an EP titled "Number 7." On Abe's label the title track is called "What happen." The EP is a Friendly house tech rhythm fueled with deep forms of acid. Together with Blake's vocals gives it that deep sexy underground classic sound. It's a sure fire club banger.

2004 was the year Blake also re-launched his Mix Record's label along with a new sub label called "The Republic Sound of Detroit" under the Mix Inc. umbrella. "Poetry and Rhythm" is the first project to be released on Republic of Sound. "Poetry and Rhythm" (Session One) the 12" on side one is a Marvin Gay spoken word cover of "What's Going On." It's a mixture of house and jazz elements. Side Two is a spoken poem over filtered house with a Friendly intro and a surprise break in the middle. Side two B is titled "Forbidden Fruit."
