If you’re 24 or older you’ll probably remember the television show, Family Ties, which aired for 180 episodes from 1982 to 1989. Starring Michael J. Fox in the role that made him a household name, this is a serious nostalgia trip and a fantastic time capsule for Fox fans. However, the show has dated somewhat severely; the earnest, overly sentimental and moralistic message at times even stronger than the opinions expressed in Seventh Heaven, which is a scary thought. However, Fox as Alex, the reserved, Republican teenager with liberal parents, is one of the more memorable characters in television history and is never short of a wisecrack remark or argument stopper. Watch out for the season highlight featuring a pre-Big Tom Hanks playing a family member on the run from the law. It’s a seriously hilarious episode, but not enough to save this from being one for fans only.
