Hopscotch Entertainment4/5 I must be a fan of Julie Delpy as a writer. I love Before Sunrise and Before Sunset and now I love 2 Days in Paris. While all three revolve around a night/day/couple of days in a city and a lot of dialogue, these three films have three of the best scripts written in the past decade or so. And a lot of this dialogue is often improvised, evidence of the brilliance of the cast (Delpy herself, ha). This time round Delpy is Marion, a photographer in Paris for two days (who would’ve thought?) with her neurotic NYC boyfriend Jack (Adam Goldberg) to meet her parents. The humour comes in the form of cross-cultural misunderstandings, neurotic, sarcastic observations, the French love of hating Americans and Jack’s paranoia. As he meets all the men in Marion’s life, past and present, it’s revealed that most have been, in some form or another, ‘with’ her. The fact that they’re still friends drives Jack crazy. Snappy, snazzy… a great film. Extras: deleted scenes, commentary with Julie Delpy, trailers |
