8/10

It is easy to deride Felix Da Housecat post Kittenz and Thee Glitz. However as an entertaining DJ capable of playing great party tunes he remains first class. In an era where mixes are too predictable and monotonous Felix often pulls out melodic gems that function as a throwback to different eras and different genres, exemplified on this release by Sally Shapiro’s Hold Me So Tight – evocative of Felix circa 2001 – which opens disc two. When you throw in prime underground techno cuts from the likes of Chris Liebing, classic Thomas Bangalter and a Shinichi Ogawa remix of Felix himself then you have a mix that is well above average. The opening disc has a distinctly minimal techno feel, exemplified by highlight tracks like Alex Bau’s Halifaxfunk, before moving in a more progressive direction. Disc two is more melodic and ‘trademark’ Felix with an increased emphasis on melody and vocal-based tracks. Fans of the classic Felix style will prefer this disc as it resurrects the zeitgeist of electroclash. He may currently spend his days drinking copious amounts of tequila and mingling with P-Diddy but Felix will always be a great entertainer.
