banggang.jpgThe biggest little festival in Sydney graced the grounds of the Greenwood once again for another long weekend special: Oz Fest on Anzac!

After hearing reports from the last event, and being unlucky (or lucky) enough to miss it, I was slightly apprehensive as to how successful the day would be. No doubt the music would be awesome with a line-up including the who’s who in the Australian dance scene, but would the promises from promoters to clean up the logistics of the event materialise?

Reasonable bar queue – check. Space to dance, chill, drink and breathe –check. Reasonable toilet lines – for the most part, check (unless you’re female, in which case sucks to be you!). Limiting the capacity, and increasing the bar staff to accommodate the larger crowd made for a much more enjoyable day. A credit to the Club VIP team.

Now onto the music.

Matt Roberts and Seany B (TV Rock fame) had a standout set. The Brisbane MC played hype man to perfection, amping the crowd, whilst rapping over classic beats. His new single Happy Today proved to be a crowd pleaser, with the MC and DJ successfully mashing the key elements of hip hop and funky house together for what should prove to be a massive track this autumn.

Next up, Mobin Master on the 1s and 2s and Karina Chavez on the mic. The act every Oz Fest bopper was anxiously anticipating, and what an exceptional performance they delivered. Playing the crowd like Gupetto, the duo teased, tethered and fluffed the punters, throwing in the opening melody to Show Me Love every couple of tracks promising it would be up next. When it finally dropped, the place went NUTS! Shirts came off, drinks were thrown, and all hands were in the air as a wave of emotion swept the main courtyard. It was magic.

Showcasing the best dance acts Oz has to offer, Oz Fest proved to be an awesome event. If there were any doubts as to the success of the future of this event, they were quashed on Friday. An awesome atmosphere, great music, and a crowd to match made for a memorable day. Can’t wait for the next one!
