Shitkatapult co-founder Apparat (real name Sascha Ring) managed to win over a healthy legion of new fans with last year’s Walls album, and this sprawling unmixed two-CD set Things to Be Frickled collects together his remix back history. In this case, the delight of obtaining Apparat’s own reworkings of artists such as Boys Noize, Telefon Tel Aviv and Nathan Fake is boosted to new levels by the second disc here, which sees the same producers returning the remix swap with Apparat’s own productions, including the spellbinding Holdon and Arcadia, being twisted into considerably divergent forms. Amongst the 21 consistently inspired tracks here, it’s difficult to pick favourites, but Apparat’s retake alongside Ellen Allien of Paul Kalkbrenner’s Queer Fellow and Modeselektor’s re-rub of Apparat & Raz Ohara’s aforementioned Holdon certainly edge out as serious highlights amongst a veritable galaxy of stars. Damned gorgeous stuff.
