Madman
4.5/5
Here we have my fifth favourite film of 2007 (not Superbad, which was annoying inserted last minute to my list last year), so there’s the review practically already written, in one sentence. But does the DVD release translate the sharp contrasts and lavish imagery onto the small screen? In a word, yes. In same ways it betters the film, providing a more intimate experience as there’s really nothing like hearing Atmosphere in the comfort of your own living room. While Joy Division are loved by millions around the world, they are a very personal band and having Control in your collection is a must. Ian Curtis’ story is a tragic one, and Sam Riley brings it to life with such conviction you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a documentary. With a plethora of quality extras, this could be the best DVD release of a film this year so far.
Extras: interviews, making of, commentary, extended performances, B-roll footage, behind the scene footage, theatrical trailer
