8/10

Over the past fifteen years, Dave Clarke has emerged as one of the survivors of both the first wave of UK techno and the superstar DJ era, his packed international festival schedule balanced with a level of underground credibility earned from astutely knowing which opportunities to turn down. This expansive 2-CD unmixed collection certainly represents something of a bonanza for Clarke fans as it collects together no less than thirty different reworkings Clarke’s done for other artists over the aforementioned thirteen-year period. Even a cursory glance through the tracklisting here offers an indictment as to the extent of Clarke’s production influence, with names as disparate as Underworld, Christopher Just, Super Furry Animals and Gary Numan all making appearances amongst the two discs. Particularly tasty is the inclusion of several previously ‘lost’ mixes such as Clarke’s reworking of New Order’s Everything’s Gone Green as well as his first ever remix of The Passion’s I’m In Love With A German Film Star. While the predominant flavour leans towards relentless techno rhythms, the odd moments of chill from Death In Vegas and Depeche Mode (with a near-acoustic retake of Dream On) offer respite for the weary. Damned fine stuff.
